Missing Flood Victim's Body Found in Guwahati, 10 Killed
Guwahati: The body of the man who was washed away in the flash floods of Bharalu river in Guwahati yesterday was found by the National Disaster Response Force team today.
The man’s identity was said to be Bibek Saha, according to police reports. The victim was killed after being washed away by the heavy currents of the river in the Tarun Nagar area of the city on Friday.
In another incident as a result of the floods, at least 100 houses were destroyed in the Kharguli area of the city due to a landslide.
The flash floods came without warning and has left at least 10 people dead in the city. 3 of the same family were killed after an wall of their house collapsed on them and at least 5 others were electrocuted in various parts of the city while two others are said to be swept away by the searing floods waters.
The Met office revealed that the city has recorded 57mm railfall till 8.30 am on Friday, which is the fifth-highest in more than a decade, and the monsoon is far from over this year, so the number might be a lot higher by the end of it all.
The city has come to a complete halt with the govt announcing a public holiday today due to the dilapidated state of the streets of the city as a result of the artificial floods.
